Motto of NCC
The NCC motto, “Unity and Discipline” (Ekta aur Anushasan), was adopted on October 12, 1980, during the 12th Central Advisory Committee meeting. Selected from suggestions like “Duty and Discipline” and “Duty, Unity and Discipline,” it encapsulates the NCC’s mission to unite youth from diverse backgrounds and instill disciplined, responsible citizenship.
History of NCC in India
The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is the youth wing of the Indian Armed Forces, established under the National Cadet Corps Act of 1948 and officially launched on July 15, 1948. Its roots trace back to the University Corps, formed under the Indian Defence Act of 1917 to address personnel shortages in the Army. In 1920, this was replaced by the University Training Corps (UTC) under the Indian Territorial Act to enhance its appeal to youth. During World War II, the British-established University Officers Training Corps (UOTC) in 1942 fell short of expectations, prompting the need for a more effective scheme. A committee led by Pandit H.N. Kunzru recommended a national-level cadet organization, leading to the formation of the NCC. Initially focused on creating a second line of defence, as seen during the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars, the NCC syllabus was revised post-1971 to emphasize leadership, social service, and youth development over military training. Today, headquartered in New Delhi, the NCC operates as a Tri-Services Organisation (Army, Navy, and Air Force), grooming disciplined and patriotic citizens with no mandatory military service obligation.
Our NCC Unit
Since its inception in 1988, the NCC unit at our college, affiliated with the 20th Gujarat Battalion, has been a beacon of discipline, leadership, and service. With a sanctioned strength of 53 cadets, our unit is led by the dedicated Associate NCC Officer (ANO), Lt. Ukti V. Patel. Over the years, our cadets have actively participated in a wide array of activities, embodying the spirit of nation-building and personal development.
Activities Undertaken
Our NCC unit organizes numerous activities each year, fostering character, camaraderie, and a sense of responsibility among cadets. These include:
· Institutional Training: Regular parades and drills conducted on campus, focusing on basic military skills, discipline, and teamwork.
· Camp Training: Participation in Annual Training Camps (ATC), National Integration Camps (NIC), and Thal Sainik Camps (TSC), where cadets experience regimented life, leadership training, and cultural exchange.
· Social Service and Community Development: Initiatives like blood donation drives, tree plantation, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and disaster relief efforts, reflecting the NCC’s commitment to selfless service.
· Adventure Activities: Trekking, mountaineering, and other adventure camps to instill a spirit of adventure and resilience.
· Civil Defence and Awareness: Training and participation in mock drills, such as the nationwide Civil Defence Mock Drill planned for May 7, 2025, to enhance preparedness. Our cadets also engage in certificate examinations (A, B, and C levels), with many excelling and earning recognition, enhancing their career prospects, including in the Armed Forces.
Usual NCC Activities
The NCC curriculum nationwide emphasizes a blend of institutional and camp-based training. Cadets undergo drills, weapon training, and physical fitness programs, alongside specialized training depending on their wing (Army, Navy, or Air Force). Social service activities, such as community development programs and environmental initiatives, are integral, promoting a sense of civic duty. Adventure training, including rock climbing and trekking, builds confidence and teamwork. National Integration Camps foster unity across diverse cultures, while attachment training with regular Army units provides exposure to military life.
Our Commitment
The NCC unit at our college remains committed to shaping vibrant, disciplined, and patriotic youth who contribute to nation-building. By upholding the motto of “Unity and Discipline,” our cadets strive to lead by example, serve the community, and inspire others. We invite students to join our NCC unit and embark on a transformative journey of leadership, service, and pride. For more information, contact Lt. Ukti V. Patel or visit the college NCC office.
