SEXUAL HARASSMENT CELL (SHC)

The sexual harassment cell is established in accordance with the Sexual Harassment of women at workplace ( prevention, prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013 to ensure safe and inclusive environment in the institution.

1. Objectives:

  • Prevention of sexual harassment in the institution.
  • To address complaints and grievances related to sexual harassment.
  • To create awareness and conduct sensitization programmes.
  • Ensure a free and fair Redressal mechanism.

3. Scope:
The standard operating procedure (SOP) applies to all students, faculty, staff and visitors within the institution’s premises including online interactions.

4. Definition of sexual harassment:

Sexual harassment includes, but is not limited to the following:

  1. Unwelcome physical contact and advances.

  2. Demand for sexual favours.

  3. Sexually coloured remarks.

  4. Display of inappropriate content.

  5. Any other unwelcome conduct of sexual nature including sexually coloured messages.

     

5.Complaint Redressal Mechanism:

The Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be as follows:
    5.1 Filing a complaint: 

  1. A victim or witness may file a written complaint to the SHC via physical submission or email.

  2. The complaint should include details of the incident, evidence (if any) and witness information (if any).

  3. Anonymous complaints may be accepted, but action will be based on available evidence.
     

      5.2 Preliminary inquiry: 

  1. SHC will conduct an initial review within 3 working days to determine if the complaint falls under the preview of sexual harassment.

  2. If valid, a formal inquiry will be initiated.

        5.3 Investigation process:

  1. A notice will be sent to the accused, seeking a response within 7 days.

  2. Confidential hearing will be conducted with both the parties.

  3. Witness may be called testimony.

  4. The inquiry should be completed within 30 days from the date of submission of complaint.

 

     5.4 Recommendations and actions:
     A. If found guilty, disciplinary actions may include;

  • Written warning.

  • Suspension or termination (for staff).

  • Expulsion or suspension (for students).

  • Legal action as per applicable laws.

     B. If not found guilty, the complaint will be dismissed with justification.

     5.5 Confidentiality and protection:

  1. The identity of the complainant, accused and witness will be kept confidential.

  2. Retaliation against complainants or witness is strictly prohibited.

     5.6 Awareness and training:

  1.  Conducting workshops and seminars on sexual harassment policies.

  2. Displaying the sexual harassment policies on institution’s notice board and website.

     

     5.7 Reporting and documentation:

  1. The SHC will maintain records of complaints and actions taken.

  2. An annual report will be submitted to the institution’s administration.
     

     5.8 Review and updates:

The SOP will be reviewed annually and updated as per legal requirements and institutional needs.
